Making a Case for Color in The Kitchen
While the classic white kitchen is not going anywhere, these vibrant Bakes and Kropp spaces surely make a case for color. Accentuated in rich hues, our fine cabinetry transforms the heart of the home into a lively and spirited one. Read on for a few aspirational kitchen designs that might just convince you to go bold and embrace color in the kitchen.
Bold + Bright
Forecasting the call for more vibrant kitchen designs, we employed our custom color capabilities to design the Galerie House of Art and Design kitchen in 2021. The St. Clair Blue hand-painted contemporary cabinetry was intentionally selected as a lively pop of color to match the high-energy style of the rest of the house. By incorporating blue accessories throughout the kitchen, the bright cabinetry “has a friend to talk to,” according to Bob Bakes, our Head of Design and Co-Founder, meaning the color is drawn throughout the design for flow and doesn’t just stand out on its own. Employing classic design elements alongside this fresh pop of color, Bakes & Kropp stylized a modern, sophisticated getaway for the contemporary home that effortlessly blends timeless and new-age aesthetics.
Coastal Green Elegance
Bakes & Kropp revamped this aging kitchen with sage green cabinetry in The Hamptons. In fact, the stylish green finish was the homeowner’s sole guiding request, leaving our design team, led by Senior Designer Guillaume Dupré, the creative freedom to bring it to life. The elegant yet pared-down hue hints at the home’s natural surroundings, offering an unconventional beachy touch. Bakes and Kropp paired the cabinetry with polished white quartz surfaces, a custom-designed white hood, and brass accents to elevate the space without losing its coastal appeal. Our signature balanced approach delivers a stylish, thoughtful kitchen for this Southampton home.
Regal Dark Blue Hue
On the Upper East Side, this small galley kitchen gets a bold Bakes & Kropp facelift. Hand-painted in a custom dark blue finish, Classic Belleview cabinetry creates a bold contrast against the warm planked flooring and white marbled backsplash. Brass hardware adds another transitional element with a boxed silhouette. While appliances and custom storage are concealed behind these dark blue doors, the design team installed open crystal shelving and glass-front cabinets to help lighten and brighten the greater space. To deliver such a statement in cabinetry, Bakes & Kropp foregoes no minor effort to ensure a sensible, cohesive space.
Mint Condition Reading Room
Bakes and Kropp can help you incorporate color outside the kitchen as well! The same Upper East Side apartment as above takes a colorful note from the kitchen in its cheery parlor room. Bakes and Kropp’s custom-designed mint green built-ins, classical crown moldings, custom cabinetry faces, and open bookshelves to hold the homeowner's growing book collection and mementos. Warm built-in lighting entices one to open a book from the parlor’s seating area.
Swanky Pantry Sheen
Offset from the greater grand kitchen, this vibrant blue butler’s pantry is any home entertainer’s dream! The bright blue finish reflects light with its high gloss finish. True lite doors soften the space while offering a showcase for fine serving ware behind ribbed glass. Copper hardware adds a cool, refined accent against the marbled countertop and backsplash. Bakes and Kropp carefully considers each of the kitchen’s elements to complement and enhance the cabinetry’s blue finish.
Not ready to take the full plunge with color?
We could all use some color in our day-to-day, and you don’t need an entire cabinetry overhaul to do it! In this Long Island kitchen, Bakes and Kropp custom-designed a blue island and matching range hood for a cheery layer of color. The custom hue helps add a more youthful component to the greater classic kitchen, whose muted tones actually help these accents shine as the more impactful element.
While choosing the right kitchen color can feel like a big commitment, our design team is here to help guide you through the process and work with you to select hues that you’ll love for years to come.
