Project Feature: Comfortable Contemporary
Everyone craves a spacious kitchen for cooking and entertaining, and the Bakes & Kropp design team specializes in balancing openness with comfort in these sometimes vacuous areas. When our client in Manalapan, a town in Palm Beach County, approached us with their project, it was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our expertise, transforming a large, sun-filled space into a stylish and inviting contemporary kitchen.
The mix of blue-gray and cerused wood cabinetry lends major style to this relaxed Palm Beach kitchen.
Working directly with Senior Designer T. Russell DeBose, our client’s focus was on creating a harmonious design that blurred the lines between indoor and outdoor, and enhanced the natural beauty of the surroundings. It was important to our client that the space have adequate storage solutions while ensuring the sizable room felt intimate and relaxed. With only one prominent wall to work with, Russell and the team faced a challenge in unifying the space while maximizing functionality. With floor-to-ceiling windows on the east side of the room, the design team focused the appliances and cooking spaces on the opposing wall, offering a front-row view from the kitchen into the stunning backyard and pool area.
Our design team planned plenty of space for easy maneuvering while cooking.
The large island features a cerused finish and stunning views.
A commanding marble island was also added to aggrandize storage and provide ample space for entertaining. To make use of the abundant square footage in the kitchen, the island was situated far enough away from the prep space to allow for ease of movement and accessibility while cooking. The mix of cerused wood and blue-gray cabinets, along with Armac Martin nickel hardware, was continued on the centerpiece of the kitchen to tie the entire room together. A sculptural wheel faucet was selected for the island sink to create interest and complement the nickel hardware, adding contrast to the warmer wood tones. Overhead, two large woven pendants were installed to resemble coastal plant life, further connecting to the surrounding natural environment. Despite the generous size and open floor plan of the kitchen, the design team achieved a comfortable gathering space that feels like home.
A custom mirrored range hood reflects the natural beauty of the backyard.
With only one wall to work with, our design team unified the space in form and function.
The finished space blends casual and clean contemporary aesthetics, offering a welcoming yet polished atmosphere. Bakes & Kropp Madison cabinetry in gray ceruse adds depth, effortlessly connecting the island and perimeter cooking areas. A large, mirrored custom range hood serves both as a functional feature and a visual statement, reflecting light and outdoor views to establish another link to the backyard landscape. Thoughtful storage solutions and carefully selected materials unify the expansive layout, with the design flowing seamlessly into the butler's pantry and office, resulting in a chic, purposeful home.
Our client got their wish: to merge the indoor and outdoor living spaces.
